Prescription Medication Abuse Growing at Record Pace
The abuse of prescription drugs is on the rise as children are accessing the medication cabinets of parents and grandparents. Northern Michigan Substance Abuse Services CEO Dennis Priess says "I've been involved in the field of addiction in Northern Michigan for 30 years, and the explosion of prescription drug abuse and addiction is unprecedented."
This abuse is not limited to Northern Michigan. Across the nation there is a growing concern over the amount of prescription drugs found in the wrong hands. What drug enforcement agencies are finding is a great increase in synthetic opiates such as methadone, Oxy-Contin, morphine, Vicodin and other analgesics.
